To access AED (the Aboriginal Education’s Ray and Millie Silver Library):
·         Login to your school through Destiny
·         Catalogue
·         Library search
·         Basic
·         Use the location dropdown to choose
.   “district” if you just want to search AbEd, CORE, and AVS
.   “Abbotsford school district” if you want to include the entire school district’s collections
·         Type in your search term
·         click on “title details”
·         “hold it” should be a choice on the right hand side of the title details (only if the book is available at AED)
·         A drop down appears if you choose:
.   “as soon as possible” then it will be interoffice mailed to you (one book only)
.   “reserve for specific date” then it will be put aside for you to pick up on that date
·         The library technician at AED will be working there 2x/week and will process the books

Artist in Residence:  We are pleased to announce Frieda George will be here from February 7 - June 8th every Tuesday and Thursday teaching students how to Salish Weave.  The students and Frieda will weave a 4 1/2 ft X 8 ft long Salish Weaving that will be gifted to Yale Secondary School upon completion.  This is a first for our District for a master Weaver as an Artist in Residence.

The RBC Aboriginal Youth Leadership Scholarship is designed to offer Aboriginal Youth a unique opportunity to participate in Outward Bound Canada's National Youth Leadership Scholarship program.  This scholarship is intended for youth aged 14-18 who have demonstrated leadership within their own community and are interested and invested in participating in an outward Bound wilderness experience.    Contact 1-888-688-9273 EXT 214 or Laura_Hood@outwardbound.ca for more information.

Field Trips

May 25th -Last Field trip of the 16/17 School year.  Takaya Tours from 8-3
Paddle in a First Nations Canoe up the Indian Arm with cultural drumming and story telling along the way.  Then take an ancestral walking tour and end with a salmon lunch.  Only 30 spots available, so get your permission form early.

September 21st, 2017 -First field trip for 17/18 school year.
Indian Arm Sea School with First Nations Cultural Experience.  Board the Oceanwatch II and head up the Indian Arm to learn about marine mammal identification, wildlife viewing, First Nations Songs, drumming, story telling, history and Pictographs along the water's edge.  Only 30 spots available.
